Multiple Outboards Takes On Whole New Meaning

Most boaters are noticing the trend towards multiple outboards mounted on the stern of increasingly larger sport and sport fishing boats.

Many of the center console fishing boats in particular are set up now for two and even three large outboard motors. This propulsion style offers an easily installed, easily maintained alternative to inboards and inboard/outboards. And, with the phenomenal power figures being achieved by marine outboard engines, there’s plenty of get-up-and-go and top speed to get you where you want to go and back. The redundancy of multiple engines increases the safety and reliability margins as well.

But when is enough enough?  We recently came across the ultimate in multiple outboard motor applications, and here it is. This is one of those "just when you think you’ve seen it all…." imagination-busting ideas. For the curious among you, this boat was apparently used to make high-speed drug runs across the English Channel. We wonder what will become of it now that it’s been apprehended.  We’ll wait and see if Yamaha decides to use this in an ad campaign!
