Q: How is draft determined?
A: Draft is the total depth of the boat, and is usually the measure from the loaded waterline to the bottom of the keel. It does not include the depth of an outboard motor, which typically extends below the keel. For a sailboat with a centerboard, the draft is the depth of the fixed hull, with the added depth of centerboard stated as well.
